I’m the one in the dress.

So, for a while now, I’ve been considering writing a blog based on my job(s) – drama tutor, performer, theatre director and writer – and today I took the plunge.

A bit about myself.

Day-job – I’m currently working for the Maddermarket Theatre in Norwich as Education Manager for Mad Red Theatre School, providing high quality theatre skills training for ages 6-84 years. I manage the classes, find tutors, plan the syllabus, teach and more.

Directing –  in April I begin rehearsals for Tony Marchant’s ‘The Attractions’ at Norwich’s Sewell Barn Theatre. I’ve wanted to direct this play for a long, long time. Since I was young enough to perform in it.

Writing – I’m learning to write comedy sets and developing themed acts with a local comedy actress. The character she has created is starting to really take off, and we find ourselves under mounting pressure to create enough material for forthcoming events.

A couple of years ago I had an idea for a children’s story about a boy and his giant spider. I haven’t written a story since I left drama school so it’s taking a while to be happy with it. I want to do to ‘properly’ as eventually I’d like to get published. My gorgeous partner recently suggested I turn it into a children’s play (well, they did it with Charlotte’s Web, so someone out there makes giant spider costumes), so that’s yet another project I have tucked away in the back of my mind.
